2. As a host of the “show”, you will:

– Introduce the S group and their project

– Engage the audience and lead discussions

– Facilitate the interactions between the judges (C group) and the entrepreneurs (S group)

– Run the ‘show’ as professional as possible

Students in H group are responsible for running the show. This is an opportunity for you to develop your leadership skills. In this ‘show,’ the entrepreneurs propose their projects to the venture capitalists to seek for funding. As a host, make sure you run this meeting professionally . Try to be creative to encourage audience participations and moderate the discussions.

Tips:

1. Be prepare for using a variety of media technologies to facilitate discussion.

2. Make the best use of the 5-minute intersection to engage audience and to practice your leadership skills.

3. The key is to lead the discussion.

4. Remember, this is your show!

Present your entrepreneurial ideas, your project. The goal is to get funding from the venture capitalists, the “Sharks,” the C group.

To the S group, this is a competition for money (funding) and for business opportunity. You either win or lose. If you lose, you walk away with nothing!

To win, it requires not just selling skills, but also the attractiveness of your business plan, your vison, strategic thinking…etc.

C

5-10 minutes

Critique and Judge S group’s proposal from a venture capitalist’s perspective :

· Seek clarification on confusing or misleading aspects of the business proposal

· Question the assumptions made by the S group

· Probe the S group’s contingency plans

· Evaluate the feasibility and successful possibility of the business plan

The C group plays the role of venture capitalist. With this investor’s position, C group has every right to ask any business related questions or request additional information on project related issues that are not clarified in the presentation.

You are the “Shark”.

You have the power to decide who gets the money/funding.

You get to judge the winner and loser.

The Entrepreneurial Proposal Competition Presentation Template

The Host group is in charge of running the ‘show’.

The H group must control the time as the presentation proceeds.

Role-play: Host group – Host of the day

Solution group – Entrepreneur team

Critique group – Venture capitalist (judges)

5 min: The H group starts the meeting, introduces the entrepreneur team (S group) and the judges (C group), briefly introduce the proposal, and welcome the audience…etc.

10-12 min: The S group presents their entrepreneurial proposal.

5 min: A small break for C group members to prepare their critiques.

Host group shall take this opportunity to engage the audience. (e.g., Using fun activities, video, small quizzes….etc. to motivate participation and encourage discussion.)

5-10 min: The C group is introduced by the H group and presents their critiques. The S group responds under the supervision of H group.

To demonstrate leadership, the H group should encourage the interaction between S and C groups to discuss their differences.

Then, at the end, the H group opens the discussion to the class.

10-15 min: Professor Lee reserves the last 10-15 minutes. Professor Lee will conclude the meeting and provide constructive feedbacks to the performing groups. (The H group has full authority at every other time.)

** Host group must control the time and end the meeting on time!

Peer Evaluation

Each student in the class who is not on the performing group (H, S, and C group) of the day is required to evaluate the classroom presentations.
