Guidelines for Course Project
Directions: Below are the guidelines for the Course Project in this course. Please read the general Course Project guidelines, the specific information about what is required for each deliverable due in each module, and the Course Project Rubric.
General Course Project Guidelines: For the Course Project, you will be completing a research paper that must be a minimum of 1700 words. In each module, you will be required to submit a component of the Course Project that will focus on the applied as well as the theoretical issues related to your topic. This course builds on your current knowledge in the field and emphasizes the practice of forensic psychology. The Course Project provides you the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of a specific aspect of the practice of forensic psychology. You may want to choose an area you hope to pursue as a professional, thus, you will want your paper to focus on the practice of forensic psychology and current best practices for the topic you select. For example, if you were to select Conducting a Competency to Stand Trial Evaluation (CST), you should discuss the standard being used and how well research supports the use of this standard. Describe the actual procedure used to conduct a CST, including the psycho-legal issues to be addressed, assessment instruments you would be likely to use, and a discussion on the content and format of the report to be submitted to the court.
Module 1: Review guidelines and begin search for topic identification Review the topics below during Module 1. You may select a topic from the list of possible topics or you may also select a topic thats not on the list, provided that you have your instructor approve the topic before you begin. ? The duties of a correctional psychologist
? Conducting a criminal responsibility evaluation

? The evaluation of child abuse charges
? The role of the forensic psychologist in sentencing hearings
? The reliability and validity of risk assessment
? The juvenile justice system, or other topics as approved by the course instructor Once you select a topic from the above or one approved by your instructor for your course project, include the following in your opening section of the paper:

? Any personal or professional experiences that influenced your choice?
? Any biases you feel you may bring to the research topic as you begin? How can you address these biases?

Module 3: Annotated bibliography
? Complete an annotated bibliography of at least 12 scholarly references that you will use for your course project.
? List each resource and then type a brief review of the research conducted in that source and explain how it addresses your research topic.
? In addition, explain how you found your resources. Provide keyword searches and database navigation so that other students may benefit from your strategies.
? Your completed annotated bibliography should be 500-750 words.
? Submit the Course Project Part 2-Annotated Bibliography to the Dropbox no later than Sunday 11:59 PM EST/EDT of Module 3. (This Dropbox basket is linked to Turnitin.)
Module 4: Scholarly paper outline You will complete the Course Project Part 3- Scholarly Paper Outline. For this component of the course project you are to: Write an outline of your scholarly paper with 750-1,000 words and include the following elements:
? Provide the purpose of your scholarly paper.
? Introduce the topic you have chosen. Also, briefly explain the problem or issue you are trying to address through your scholarly paper.
? Provide justification for writing about this topic.
? What is different about what you are writing? Explain what new insights you are providing in your scholarly paper.
? What are the opportunities for future research?
? List each of your references following APA guidelines for writing and citing text.
? Attach your annotated bibliography to the end of the document.
? Submit Course Project Part 3- Scholarly Paper Outline to the Dropbox no later than Sunday 11:59 PM EST/EDT of Module 4. (This Dropbox basket is linked to Turnitin.)
Module 5: Draft submission You are required to evaluate and interpret the literature, utilize research from the sources in your annotated bibliography, synthesize the information from your research, address the pros and cons related to the topic and provide rationale for each position researched, and draw your conclusions and begin typing the first draft of your scholarly paper. In your draft, ensure that you address the feedback provided by your instructor in the outline. Include the following subheadings:
? Title page
? Abstract
? Introduction
? Legal issues
? Practice of forensic psychology
? Summary
? Reference page
? Submit Course Project Part 4- Draft Submission to the Dropbox no later than Sunday 11:59 PM EST/EDT of Module 5. (This Dropbox basket is linked to Turnitin.)
Module 6: Review draft before final submission/ prepare final draft Retype the Course Project after reflecting on the feedback received from the instructor at the first draft review stage. Contact your instructor if you did not receive feedback about your draft from your instructor no later than Sunday 11:59 PM EST/EDT of Module 6.
Add additional input from your instructor if it is needed. You will need to make arrangements for that consultation. For this component of the course project you are to:

your literature review?

Module 7: Submit final Course Project Complete and finalize Course Project. Reflect on any changes and suggestions received from the instructor at the draft-review stage. If additional input is needed from your instructor, make arrangements for that consultation. In addition, describe the problem or issue you hope to address, and provide the scope of your scholarly paper. Mention the opportunities for future research. In the final scholarly paper, examine carefully the following points:

? How will you apply the results of your literature review, and what will it do for you or others?

Module 8: Course Project Peer Review Written Exercise 8 will include the Course Project Peer Review. The instructions for this assignment include:
? Pick one of the posted research papers and answer the questions below. You will submit and post responses to the questions on the Peer Review Written Exercise 8 Discussion Board and Dropbox. (This Dropbox basket is linked to Turnitin.)
? Choose one research paper submitted by a peer. When you type your feedback to your instructor, please provide the name of the student that you provided the feedback to. Provide balanced feedback using the rubric located in Doc Sharing and also rate the following areas listed below: – What was the quality of information of the paper you received? – How well is the position of the writer supported by the research?
– Was there enough evidence of support from at least two resources presented by at least a different perspective other than the one the writer has taken?
– Did the person follow APA guidelines? – Were the details thorough and the quality of information well-written to allow you to
learn from the paper?

? To complete this assignment, you will respond logically to at least three of your classmates Peer Reviews. Each of your responses is to be at least 100 words in length and can be based solely on your opinion. Refer to the syllabus for additional guidance. Course Project Rubric: Students will complete the assignment with attention to the criteria below. Rating:
