ACTIVITY 1: INSTRUCTIONS
Today’s society glorifies multitasking. However, multitasking can be a negative while working with clients and other employees. To clearly understand the needs of your client or stakeholders, one must learn to actively listen.
1. Watch Active Listening
2. Complete the Lynda.com tutorial entitled Customer Service Fundamentals sections 3 and 4
3. From the Important Documents folder, download the Week Four file entitled “Active Listening Activity” and complete each activity. There is one activity for each day so be sure to start early. In each activity, you will engage in multiple conversations that you will later summarize and analyze. Submit all activities in one document.

ACTIVITY 2: INSTRUCTIONS
Selective listening is the act of hearing and interpreting only parts of a message that seem relevant to you, while ignoring or devaluing the rest. Often, selective listeners will form arguments before they’ve heard the full story, making them not only poor listeners but poor speakers too! A good listener should be present for the entire discussion, not just selective parts.

2. Research the concept of selective listening on the internet.
Write a 500-word essay on selective listening. Describe an experience where you employed or observed selective listening in a personal or professional environment. Address the effect of selective listening on others in one-on-one environments, in team environments and during meetings. Discuss what strategies one can employ to reduce the tendency to engage in selective hearing. Be sure to use course content and address key points on what you have learned in the course on listening.
