Peer discussion 1
In this week’s discussion we will be talking about two organizations that help us to keep up Nursing Excellence. Although there are many organizations I chose to talk about The Joint Commission and the World Health Organization. I will discuss the purpose of each of these organizations, and the roles they have in nursing education and practice. I will also discuss how they impact the nursing profession, and how they influence nursing excellence.
The purpose of the Joint Commission is to make sure that the most up to date and safest practices are implemented into healthcare and that the care of the community is always improving to make sure that everyone is getting the best possible care. The World Health Organizations purpose is to be responsible for leadership on a global level, to organize research all over the world. Giving healthcare options in their evidenced based policies, and monitoring health trends all over the world. (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, National League of Nursing, QSEN Institute, The Joint Commission, World Health Organization 2012-2014) Many times the Facility in which I work, provides us with information from the Joint Commission that is shown to be the best possible practice, and how we can implement it into our job. Such as adopting a Quantitative Blood loss for our patient’s after delivering a baby, so we have a better idea of the blood they may be losing at or after delivery.
The impact that the Joint Commission has on nursing practice is that it sets many quality standards for health care organization so that they can provide the safest of quality care to their patient’s. The Joint Commission also evaluates their performances to make sure that there is follow through with the standards of care they have set. (The Joint Commission, 2014) The World Health Organization’s (WHO) impact on Nursing practice is a little different because it is more focused on their Nursing Now campaign that focus’ more on improving the status of nurses and enable nurses to contribute as much as they can in order for WHO to achieve global health care. (World Health Organization, 2018)
The Joint Commission (TJC) plays a large role in nursing education, and in nursing research. TJC provides education to staff for improvement of the way the organization runs, it also is continuing for these organization and then is thoroughly reviewed by TJC. That way they know what is being educated is being followed through with. They provide ongoing support and advice for the organizations and the staff members to help them provide the safest most up to date care. They are heavily involved in making sure that what they are educating is evidenced based care and most up to date, researching everything and helping to implement policies. (The Joint Commission, 2018) The World Health Organization (WHO) plays a role in nursing education by not only trying to get more health care workers before the 21st century but to also give those and the current health care workers, better skills, competencies and clinical experience that they may be lacking. The WHO has so many different research studies that there are too many to even count. They are current on their studies and they are up to date with the health trends from around the world. They play a huge important role in nursing research. (The World Health Organization, n.d.)
The Joint Commission and the World Health Organization, both provide nursing excellence by being resources for health care systems. TJC is a resource for the United States and the WHO is global but they both are resources for many health care systems. They are both non-profit organizations that provide many different accreditations to different organizations. They are both very important to the safety of our patient’s and educating not only staff but also the organizations that they are employed at. I support both organization’s due to the good evidenced-based research that they do, and to
