BCJ2201 Columbia Southern Components of the Criminal Justice System Essay
I NEED THIS TO BE RE-WORDED
BCJ 2201 Unit VI Discussion Board Question
Juvenile waivers are when a judge in a juvenile court moves a case to an adult court from a juvenile. This is done in order to deny the juvenile any protection he or she would have gotten from the juvenile jurisdiction. In my opinion, waivers are very necessary and they should be used to try the juvenile in an adult court. This is because some of the crimes that the juvenile commit is so serious and the court should not risk the person going back to the society where they can cause more harm. Some of the juveniles are repeat offenders and the only to learn is if they are taken to the adult court and treated like an adult. An example of a juvenile who was waived and should not have been waived can be seen in the case of Graham v. Florida. Graham was sentenced to a lifetime in jail with no parole and been a minor this was wrong. All the states should follow the same guidelines when it comes to waivers. This is because it will bring about uniformity.

Introduction
Criminal justice system refers to a number of government-owned agencies that are responsible for arresting, arraigning as well as detaining the criminals. They are also responsible for making sure that the lawbreakers are punished. The system helps in making sure no crime is taking place, in the process of deterring crime they have to talk to the lawbreakers telling them what is right and what is not. Some of the institutions that make the criminal justice system are such as the courts, the police officers, the prosecutors, defense lawyers and also the prisons. The main role of the criminal justice system is to make sure that the lawbreakers are punished and the victims get the justice that they want.
Components of the Criminal Justice System
There are three main components that make up the criminal justice systems, that is correction facilities, law enforcement, and the courts. The law enforcement is mainly made of the police officers whose main duties are to enforcing laws, investigating crimes, putting the criminals in custody, maintaining order and protecting people as well as their property. The police officer is very crucial in the society because they make sure there is no anarchy. Law courts are also a big part of the judicial systems, they are in charge of trials, which involved if a person is guilty or innocent. They also make sure that justice is served and the criminals have gotten their punishment.
Prisons are the third component of the judicial system which is mainly a correctional system. Those are guilty are normally sentenced to serve a period of time in the prison. The offense committed is what determines the crimes that criminals get. It can be a short sentence or a long sentence. Rehabilitation is the main role of the prisons, it also helps in keeping the community safe because the criminals are locked away and also to help the inmates to get back to the society well (Neubauer and Fradella, 2018). If an inmate shows good behavior and they show remorse for their actions are able to get back to the community sooner before their term is over. Some are released through parole, others probation and others put under community correction. These programs make sure that they do not go back to their old ways.
Public Order Perspective versus Individual Rights Perspective
The two perspectives differ in that public order perspective is concerned with the public’s safety regardless of whether an individual is being put at risk while individual rights perspective is primarily concerned with an individual’s safety. The two perspectives have created a lot of controversy to both the people and the political parties. When a public order is made, its main aim is to maintain peace, ensure there are no riots by stopping violence and also to keep the public safe, for instance, by stopping the use of guns. On the hand, an individual right’s policies are normally made so that they can maintain a person’s rights. For instance, the freedom of speech regardless of whether the speech is harmful.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the main role of the criminal justice is making sure that the lawbreakers have been punished and so doing ensuring there is justice for those affected. The three components of the criminal justice system have to work as one, in so going they are able to complement each other and fight crime. Despite the perspective that a policy takes they both work towards making sure that the citizens are safe. However, both have to work hand in hand.
