As the newly appointed Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing your first task is to develop a robust Health and Safety Management System and improve health and safety performance. You recently attended a conference where there were presentations on a number of health and safety concepts namely “˜safety differently’ by Sidney Dekker and “˜safety II’ by Prof. Erik Hollnagel. The company is keen to refresh the image of health and safety and improve performance so you have done some research into these concepts to see whether they may be useful in your new role.
Critically discuss these seemingly different approaches to health and safety in relation to more traditional approaches. Your critical discussion should be in the form of an essay of 2000 words. You will need include a range of published research, guidance and standards in this area to support your arguments and discussion. The essay must finish with a conclusion based on your critical discussion that demonstrates some next steps in improving health and safety management.
