Task 5: Non-Verbal Communication
ACTIVITY 1: INSTRUCTIONS
Non-verbal communication is often perceived to relay a different message than intended. However, body language can also be utilized to send a message that is stronger than the spoken word.
1. Complete the Body Language LYNDA Tutorial.
2. Watch Body Language Video.
3. Watch Gestures and Body Language video.
4. Go to a public place such as a mall, large box store, or cafe and watch the body language that people are using. Although you may not hear what they are saying, try to read their non-verbal communication.
5. From the Important Documents folder, download the Week Five files entitled “Body Language Pics PPT” and “Body Language Template”. Study each of the individuals depicted. Using the attached template, describe what their body language is saying. Upload the completed template to Moodle.

1. Watch Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are
2. Think about a time where you were in a training or workshop and had to introduce yourself. What do you remember about the participants in the training or workshop during their introductions? How different was your introduction? What other observations can you remember?
3. Discuss your responses in a 500-word essay. Be sure to use course content and address key points from what you have learned in the course about communication, specifically non-verbal communication. Submit the essay to Moodle.
