Constraints of Powers on Legislative Branch Paper
Question Description
The legislative branch does notwork in a vacuum. Instead, Congress crafts legislation with the fullknowledge that the other two branches of government have the ability tolimit the power of the legislative branch. However, checks and balancesare a two-way street: the U.S. Constitution also delegates powers to thelegislative branch to limit the powers of the judiciary and executivebranches. Understanding these checks and balances is important from aconstitutional perspective. It also gives you some insight into theconstraints that members of the House and Senate are cognizant of asthey go about the process of constructing public policy.
Thinkabout the interactive constraints and powers of the legislative branchin relation to the judicial and executive branches. Consider, forexample, how the budget process gives power and/or places restraints onthe legislative branch of government. Also consider how the powers ofthe legislative branch might serve as a check on the policymaking powersof the judicial and executive branches.
Select one constraintand one power of the legislative branch of government. Consider how youmight explain each. Think about how the power you selected specificallyserves as a check on the other branches of government.
