Assignment 1.1
Watch a clip of challenging behaviour and draw a Functional Analysis formulation of the situation with suggestions for intervention. 20%
1. You will watch a clip of
1. While you are watching the clip please complete the answers for the question section on the right hand side of the Functional Assessment Checklist. There are 16 questions.
1. Complete the functional analysis matrix (the table) and decide where the behaviour fits. What about the behaviour is escape avoidance, attention, or sensory. You can put comments in any of those that you think the behaviour fits.
1. Write a brief (2-3 lines) Background of the video clip
1. Write a summary paragraph about your functional analysis formulation. This should include 1-2 sentences describing the problem behaviour to be analysed (operationalising the target behaviour). Then 2-3 sentences about what kind of purpose (function) the behaviour serves (as in the matrix you will have completed).
1. Then 2-3 sentences to make suggestions about intervention. You can describe the interventions you see in the clip. Try to include descriptions of the intervention using behavioural language e.g. what type of reinforcement is being used.
1. Finally mention any strengths that you notice about the children or parents that you think will help with the intervention.
Marks will be awarded for:
· Background information of the case (2 marks) point 4
· Operationalising the problem a good description of the problem/ target behaviour (3 marks) point 5
· Correct use of the matrix and matching behaviour to a possible purpose. (5 marks) point 3
· Description of formulation including correct use of different types of reinforcement (5 marks) (Summery +example from slides)
· Suggestions for intervention (3 marks) point 6
· Recognition of any strengths that will help the intervention be successful. (2 marks) point 7
