Specific Performance Objectives
Research (40%).Since the focus of the course is on learning to incorporate research to argue persuasively, the major writing assignment will incorporate research skills and documentation practice. For the paper, you will be required to find five different sources (book, magazine, journal, internet, etc.) pertaining to a specific social issue. You will then prepare a documented 1,500 to 1,750 word research paper utilizing those sources. After completing the paper, you will take the information from your paper and PROPOSE a multimodal compositionone that incorporates a combination of modalities, such as text, sound, and video. Additional information on the research project will be provided in Canvas.
Part 1: Topic Proposal: Your topic must be approved before you begin researching. Approved Topic: SHOULD A NATIONAL FORM OF HEALTHCARE BE CREATED, OR SHOULD HEALTHCARE REMAIN A PRIVATE INDUSTRY. You will argue for the PRIVATE INDUSTRY side of things.
Part 2: A 1,500-1,750 word researched persuasive essay arguing one side of your research topic, but also acknowledging and refuting an opposing viewpoint. The essay must include properly cited quotations from at least five sources.
Part 3: A multimodal PROPOSAL that incorporates the results of your research.
6. Essay Requirements:
All papers must be typed in a professional, 12-point font.
Do NOT include a title page for the essay.
Head each essay with your name, instructor’s name, course number, and date in the upper left corner of the first page.
On the upper right corner of every page, place your last name and the page number of the paper.
Papers should be double-spaced with one-inch margins on all sides using MLA format. You MAY print on both sides of the paper.
It is advisable that you keep all rough drafts, revisions, and final copies until the end of the semester.
Include a word count on the final page of your essay.
Include a work cited page and annotated bibliography
Again make sure everything is in MLA format.
7.Plagiarism Policy:

The action taken may be the awarding of a failing grade on the assignment in question or withdrawal from the course with the assignment of an Early “F.”. . . Upon the first instance of plagiarism, you will receive a zero for the assignment in question. Upon the second instance of plagiarism, you will be assigned an “F3″ for academic dishonesty and removed from the course.
