For the second essay, you will write a literary argument derived from Maus II by ArtSpiegelman. You need to select a topic that addresses a debatable, controversial, ethicalissue and argue your position regarding this issue. You must provide evidence from thetext itself, a minimum of three other scholarly sources, and logical reasoning to supportyour claim. For this essay, you can examine one of the following:• Ethical connotations of the allegorical characters• The author’s portrayal of an ethics-related human right’s issue• The ethical choices of one or more character explored in detail in the storyYour essay must show your own critical thinking and ability to support logical reasoningwith information from scholarly sources

Question A:
Topic 1 asks you to analyze the allegorical use of animals that portray people from different nationalities. Why did the author choose to do so, and does the use of animals effectively portray each nationality, or does the use of animals present a form of stereotyping?
Question B:
By definition, a story about the Holocaust addresses human rights violations, and both parts of Maus are no exception. Which types of human rights do the story address, and how does the author communicate them?
Question C:
Vladek has to make ethical choices in order to survive. While his actions during normal times would oftentimes not be acceptable, they are never questioned because of his situation. How, when and why does the ethical code change? Is it okay to apply different ethical conventions depending on the situation?
