Stages in My Life
Through life, a person can experience many events. Those events might make a person struggle and pause or provide the hope and inspiration to continue and move on. I have been through stages that have changed my life, whether for better or worse. Those stages are the most important aspects that made me who I am now because each of them taught me a new lesson that made me aware of what I have been through, and how I should deal with the new stage I have launched. Those stages which began since the third high school year until the first day of college made me learn how to be organized, rely on myself, and never give up on my ambitions.
The first stage, which I thought is the hardest was the beginning of my career. Due to some urgent cases I had to live away from my family for the first time. It was a new experience that I had to face. My uncle, whom I spent the last two years of high school with did not hesitate to talk to my father and take his permission to let me live with him while my family was travelling. He welcomed me in his house and got me a driver who could give me a ride to my school. At the beginning I was not familiar with the life away from my family, even though my uncle treated me as his own son. I was trying to live my life like nothing had happened, but that was not working. Because of that, I got the lowest grade ever which was under 90 percent. I was unhappy about that, and I did not talk to anyone about this grade. My family returned for a while and they were not sure whether they were going to stay with me for the last year of high school. I kept asking myself what if my family left me again for the same reason? and that happened. This time I asked myself why did I get lower grades, so I made a schedule for my self and organized my time. Before, my parents used to tell me what to do and when. Now, I have my own schedules for each day and how am I going to spend it. For example, I tried to make my time more organized because it was my last year in high school. This year was going to determine my future, so I made 2 hours each day for studying, 3 hours for eating and relaxing, 2 hours for time enjoyment like playing video games or talking to a friend, 1 hour for revising, and the rest to sleep. This was one of the successful plans that I have ever thought of. At the beginning it was hard to work on this schedule. After watching the results, I continued on the schedule and passed the high school with a 90 percent, even though It was not the grade that I have expected, I was happy with It. From this stage, I learned how to be organized in my life, that helped me a lot and made everything easier whenever and wherever I went.
Next, after I had graduated from high school, I was assuming that I had passed the hardest point and life will continue and be easier. Then, the time for applying for the colleges and universities came. I was totally confused, I did not know what to do or not to do. I needed advice from any person. Many people did not hesitate to advise me about what to do next, but that did not help and I got more confused because each person was ordering me to walk a path that he/she has wanted, not what was suitable for me. My father saw me getting more confused, so he told me that I am the one who is going to walk in the path that I choose; no one will help me after I choose the path. I made up my mind. I always wanted to be an engineer so, I asked why not be one?. I went on to the ministry of higher education in Kuwait to apply for a scholarship to study in the United States of America. After that, I got accepted with the scholarship. I was so happy and worried, I completed all the papers needed and got accepted to study in a English program in Cal Poly Pomona. More than 2000 students were accepted on this scholarship and each students fate was in the hands of the U.S embassy in Kuwait. Many of the students got their Visas and I was one of them. Also, I had won a ticket by chance in a drawing for the United States from the National Union of Kuwaiti Student in the U.S. As soon as I got my ticket I managed my trip and traveled for the first time on my own. I was so confident and proud of myself for what I had achieved. I knew how to rely on myself and it was easier than I have expected.
Lastly, I began my trip as an international student in Cal Poly Pomona for a E.S.L. program. Thankfully, from the first time I took the IELTS exam I got 6 out of 9 which is more than what many universities have asked for. After completing the english program I applied for CSUF and ASU. Since I was living in California I visited Fullerton to see the University and it was simple and beautiful. Also, I went to Arizona to see the other University. I liked it more in California, especially after having new friends and buying one of my dream cars, but the major factor for choosing California over Arizona was the life and the people in California. My biggest ambition back then was attending CSUF and beginning my study career as an engineer. I went back to Kuwait after receiving the new I-20 from Cal State Fullerton and finishing the ESL program. I enjoyed the vacation with my friends and family and applied to renew my visa so that I can attend Cal State Fullerton. However, I encountered some delays while getting my renewed visa and the main problem was I got the visa after the start of the Fall 2013 course. I contacted CSUF and told them about the delays I was having. First, they told me that I must apply for the next Fall since CSUF does not accept freshmen for Spring but, I had insisted and told them that I have every requirement done and that I will try to enter the United States even if the immigration may not let me in and send me back. I never gave up on my ambition to attend Cal State Fullerton and I succeeded and made it to United States and attended the university.
To sum up, any person can choose whether to benefit from the events and situations that they go through or let the opportunity get lost, and If the opportunity is lost no will lose except that person. Once a person said to me good chances come mostly once in life. What the events and chances of life made me go through let me gain the faith in myself, confidence in what I want to achieve, and how to organize my time to achieve it.
