You do not need to be eligible to vote or registered to vote. Just by living wherever you live in the U.S., there is a person who is representing your district’s interest in the U.S. Congress. If you live in Texas, our U.S. Senators are Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, but for this assignment, I just want you to look up your U.S. House Representative.
Who is your representative?
Look up their position on a policy issue that you care about. Do they hold similar beliefs or a similar position, or is it contrary to your own? (You can find this on the representative’s own web page, in the news, or on social media as long as it is from the representative him/herself).
Is it important to you that your representative knows how you want them to vote on policy issues? How can you make them aware or what you want the to do in their time in Congress?
If you don’t make your opinions known to the people who represent you, do you lose your right to complain when you disagree with the direction of the U.S. government?
