HLST2003 E-portfolio

HLST2003 E-portfolio

Phase 1
WHY IS THIS ASSIGNMENT IMPORTANT?
An E-Portfolio is a digital tool used to demonstrate life-long learning, skills, experiences, and interests. Businesses are using these in place of resume submissions. Just the way, professional websites offer valuable current information for the working professional, this will allow you a chance to showcase your professional skills in a digital and interesting manner.
The Health Studies program has implemented E-Portfolios as a way for each student to collect, reflect upon, build and publish a digital archive for their academic work and experiences.  This digital tool will be completed in three phases. You will complete phase I in this course. Please use the documents and powerpoints below to complete the assignment.
WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO:
1. Use the powerpoints provided to discover how to create an e-portfolio shell. Follow the instructions for Phase I. You are only creating the shell for this assignment.  You may go ahead and fill information in but it is not a requirement other than picture, headings and contact information.
2. Once you have created your E-portfolio shell, submit the URL on a Word document and submit via Moodle for assignment completion. If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask.
Please note: In order to access the audio in the powerpoints, your computer must have office 2013 or higher. If you do not have one of these versions on your computer, you may access it on any university computer.

Health Studies E-Portfolio Phase 1
An E-Portfolio is a digital tool used to demonstrate life-long learning, skills,
experiences, and interests. The Health Studies program has implemented EPortfolios as a way for each student to collect, reflect upon, build and publish a digital
archive for their academic work and experiences. These portfolios will ultimately be
used to showcase student achievement, demonstrate professional interests and goals,
and gather pertinent artifacts for review. As a student centered initiative, the EPortfolio is envisioned as an integral part of student assessment and evaluation as it
will be incorporated throughout the Health Studies curriculum in various classes in 3
major phases.
3 HLST courses have been identified where students will be required to create, format,
populate and publish their E-Portfolio and student portfolios will be assessed in those
classes, however all courses in the Health Studies curriculum will contribute to the
content of the portfolio. Students and instructors will identify signature assignments
that represent major learning objectives or demonstrate critical learning outcomes to
be included in the E-Portfolios.
Although signature assignments will be identified in each Health Studies course,
students are encouraged to save assignments, projects and other coursework that they
feel demonstrate their learning in a positive way. These can be in Health Studies
courses, General Education courses, or elective courses but should be professional in
nature and should demonstrate and reflect on learning.
Phase 1 of the E-Portfolio assignment includes establishment, formatting and
organization of the portfolio. Students will be required to access the website
www.wix.com, register as a user (free of charge) using their warhawks email address,
and design/format their E-Portfolio.
Step 1: Access www.wix.com
Step 2: Click Start Now to begin
Step 3: Click Sign Up to create a new account.
Step 4: Type in your Warhawks email address, confirm that and create a password
you will remember.
Step 5: That will bring you to the page where you begin designing your portfolio.
You will select Portfolio & CV (Curriculum Vitae) from the list of options
Step 6: You will be brought to a page where you can use ADI (Artificial Design
Intelligence) to design your portfolio or use Wix Editor. Wix Editor is the
recommended selection as ADI is intended for businesses and professional websites.
Step 7: Once you select Start with Wix Editor, you will be able to browse through
templates that you can use. Very important…. Once you choose a template, you can
change the colors, parts of that template, colors, components but you cannot go back
and select a different template. So, choose one that you really like or feel like you can
customize appropriately. There are categories on the left hand side, you are not
restricted to the templates in the Resumes or E-Portfolio categories. Feel free to select
a template that represents you professionally and visually. Keep in mind the goal of
this portfolio is to demonstrate your career goals, examples of learning outcomes, your
abilities and your experiences professionally. Social media sites are for personal
reflections of yourself, this portfolio should be your professional image.
Step 8: Once you have selected the template, you will customize appropriately to
represent your professional career goals, abilities, strengths and experiences. Feel
free to upload photos, documents, powerpoint presentations, videos etc. Be creative.
You want to express yourself uniquely, professionally and accurately. Color palette,
background, organization, font size and color, and graphics all contribute to the visual
impact of your E-Portfolio. There are numerous YouTube Tutorials for adding,
deleting, and changing Wix templates and pages. Access them by searching Wix in
the You Tube search engine at www.youtube.com.
Your E-Portfolio should contain the following basic components (categories):
About Me, Learning Outcomes, Experience, Outside the classroom (Community
Service), Webliography, Contact Information
In Phase 1 you are just creating (setting up) the structure of your E-Portfolio. You will
develop each section in other courses. Here are the sections and a brief description of
each.
About Me- In this section, you will introduce yourself. Include a photograph and any
details you feel pertinent and comfortable sharing. You will include career goals and
more details in HLST 3003.
Learning Outcomes- In this section, you will include signature assignments from
HLST, General Education and Elective Courses that you feel best represent your
abilities, skills, interests and best work.
Experience- In this section, you will include any on site experience you have in
healthcare or related fields (do not include unrelated activities). You can also include
your Practicum experience information here.
Outside the Classroom- In this section you will include any extracurricular activities,
hobbies, community service activities, volunteer work etc. Please be judicious as to
what you include in this section, it should demonstrate a professional, volunteer
aspect of your life and your interests.
Webliography- A webliography is a list of important, meaningful, useful web sources
that you have identified throughout your time at ULM, through Practicum, community
service etc. These should also be professional and demonstrate your interests. Make
sure you are actually familiar with any sites you list in this section as someone may
ask you about it.
Contact Information- You will provide contact information at your discretion. This
can be your ULM email, your social media sites, etc.
You can add categories that you feel critical to demonstrate your professional abilities
or expertise to include memberships, scholarships and recognition, significant
accomplishments, resume components not included in the basic components, etc.
You will work with your Instructor on the elements that should or should not be
included. Keep in mind that some of these components will be populated with
information in later courses. You are just creating the shell in Phase 1.
Feel free to link to your social media sites (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram etc)
HOWEVER you should be extremely cautious of what is on those social media sites if
you are linking to them. Remember, this is a professional image of you. If your social
media sites are not professional in nature or do not represent you in a positive light,
do not provide a link to those. You can link to ULM and other professional
associations as appropriate.
Step 9: Once you have designed your E-Portfolio, you can use the Preview button to
see what the finished page will look like. Click on return to Editor to go back to edit
the page. Once you are happy with the site, you will click on publish in the Blue box
in the top right hand corner
Step 10: Once you publish your E-Portfolio, you will be provided a link to your wix
site. This is important!! Write down or otherwise copy that link!
This is what you
can send to the instructor to access your site. You can still edit your site after you
publish, see instructions below.
