HUM303 Chamberlain College Importance of Revolution Discussion

Hello Professor and class, When reflecting on revolutions there are many things to consider. There are many reasons as to why the citizens of a country and or state would call for a revolution. Such actions are usually led by philosophers, thus making them go hand in hand. One food example was the revolution of 1848 that led to the civil war between the North and the South. This was a result of the obvious separation in classes between the middle and lower classes. As well as racial separations that also acted as an influence and people felt the absolute need to revolt. This week’s readings discuss this revolution in detail stating that “affluent bourgeois [borzh-wah] (middle-class) populace in both Europe and the United States, intent on enjoying a style of life far removed from the realities that led to a revolution in 1848 and American Civil War.” (Sayre, p.410) This must have been very upsetting for people in the lower classes, very similar to the situation that we face today. The direct separation between classes where one class live in poverty while higher classes of people monopolize their business and the government turn a blind eye. One great point that I found during this weeks research was “ According to Popper, (1959, 1962, 1972, 1999) for there to have been a cognitive revolution qua scientific revolution, one or both of the following would have already occurred: (a) The behavioral research tradition was falsified by empirical evidence and cognitive models that supplanted it has yet to be refuted. In other words, cognitive approaches are provisionally held to best reflect “reality” until they too are falsified. Or, in the event that either model has yet to be refuted, then it must be shown that (b) cognitive theories contain a greater amount of empirical information, and are thus more falsifiable and less probable than behavioral theories.” (William O’Donohue, E et al, p.90) I understand this statement to say that culture and revolution are two things that can be grouped together as the behavior of culture and influence revolution and that in turn can have an effect of influence on the government. Revolts usually depict the fact that a group of citizens within a culture are not accepting the actions of the government whether this means that the government is abusing the power or letting others abuse power in the name of the government. This was an interesting week of studies.Louisiane Joseph O’Donohue, W., Ferguson, K. E., & Naugle, A. E. (2003).
