2.Instructions
Each question in worth 10 points and asks you to:
(a) Define the term (5 points) and then
(b) create a real-world example of how this concept might apply in an actual situation involving you or someone else. (5 points)
Your definitions are to be based upon our textbook, not from other sources.
Write several sentences describing the situation and how the concept applies. For example, if the concept was “Stress,” one person might write the following:
When I had a very difficult semester, I got sick towards the end of the semester. This was probably because I had used up my resources for coping with the stress of the semester. In other words, I reached what General Adaptation Theory calls the stage of exhaustion.
Another person might write: A person who got divorced would probably experience a lot of stress, since divorce usually results in many life changes, such as the end of the relationship, having to take care of the things the other person did, financial problems, and having to move. Each of these changes puts a demand on the person, which makes for stress. The heightened stress could lead to depression, an anxiety disorder, or a physical disorder.
As in the examples above, try to show in your description of the situation that you understand the concept and how it can be applied. Don’t spend too much time on any one example, though. Some items refer to parts of the nervous system; in writing about those, give an example that illustrates how that structure affects thoughts, sensations, feelings or behaviors.
