Step 2: Design a ratings scale you can use to rate how a school’s science practices align to thebest practices you selected. For example, you might create a scale of 0 to 3 with no alignmentrating a 0 and complete alignment scoring a 3. Include a key for your ratings scale at the bottomof your chart.
Step 3: Create a three-column table that includes these headings: Best Practice, School Rating,and Rationale for Rating. Example table:
Step 4: Observe in a school’s science classrooms, noting classroompractices and how they compare to the 10-15 best practices you found inyour research. Which practices were evident, and how were theyimplemented? Which practices were not implemented? Note opportunitiesyou observed for implementation. Include photos of the classroom todocument the observations. Do not include photos of learners.
Step 5: Compose a 3- to 5-page paper that includes (1) an introduction to the topic, (2)narrative descriptions of the 10-15 best practices and how research supports these, (3) asummary of how the school’s practices compare to best practices, and (4) a conclusion thatsummarizes your findings, addressing ways to implement changes in practice. Include the tableyou created in Step 3 as an appendix.
