Unit 1: Indigenous People Summative Assignment
Directions and Support for Writing the Summative Native American Case Study.
Integrate and evaluate multiple sources of information presented in a variety of formats to determine the attitudes, values, and beliefs (worldview) of the Haudenosaunee.
Introduction and Thesis: Students must have an introductory paragraph and thesis statement. The introduction should address an enduring understanding, broad new learning, or significance for studying this topic. The thesis should act as the readers roadmap, with the claims embedded within the thesis statement. A suggestion would be to select Word Compass cards that describe the attitudes, beliefs and values of Haudenosaunee and create a thesis statement organized around these words.
Body Paragraphs: Two body paragraphs are required. More can be provided, but that is the minimum requirement. These paragraphs should have topic sentences that refer back to the thesis statement. The topic sentences must be supported with evidence from the sources we examined. Students must use a minimum of FOUR sources to exceed the standard. (Do not make extra work for yourself, students should be able to go back to their notes from the sources we analyzed and use the source annotations or their responses to questions posted in the Google Slides presentation)
Introductory Paragraph Template:
1. Context
a. Could be historical, geographical, or modern-day. Could be a combination of all three. Must explain the Haudenosaunee people. No more than three sentences for Context.
2. Introduction of Claims
a. The meat of the paper. This is what your paper is about. You are giving previews to the evidence you will use in your thesis to answer the prompt.
b. (2 claims minimum: Claim 1 is 2nd paragraph topic, claim 2 is 3rd paragraph topic)

a. You must ATQ (Answer the Question) directly and put your claims in the thesis. A person should be able to read your thesis and know exactly what your paper is about.
