The three business goals for the data warehouse in the case study are:

Improving the patient experience of care (including quality and satisfaction)
Improving the health of populations
Reducing the per person cost of healthcare

The case study concentrates on the advantages and disadvantages of different architectures for data warehouses. In addition to architecture, the data analyst must also determine what data to capture in the data warehouse to achieve the business goals. For example, one way to improve the patient experience (the first business goal) could be to reduce waits times for appointments. In order to understand what causes wait times, data about the scheduled start time, actual start time, scheduled end time, actual end time, availability of the doctor, and reason for the appointment would have to be analyzed in the data warehouse. Other ways to improve the patient experience could include: getting the diagnosis right the first time, knowing the cost upfront, avoiding second appointments with specialists, providing supplemental information for patients to read at home, etc. Each of those improvements would require different types of data in the data warehouse.
Your assignment is to specify at least one improvement for each of the three business goals above. For the improvement you identify, indicate what specific data would have to be stored in the data warehouse to analyze ways to achieve that improvement. Also specify how that data would be obtained.
Your paper should be 1 – 3 pages in APA format. Include at least one paragraph for each of the three business goals above.

Question 2. Week 6 – Data Management Project: Rough Draft
All project requirements identified below must be submitted in this “final rough draft.” This will give students the capability to get feedback and identify any issues before submitting final project. This course project is to develop an individual project plan that focuses on the database aspects of the project development lifecycle. All design, research, and work by each student will be original work in the design and creation of a new database. Students will become familiar with data management, database modeling and design, and skills to develop a final project plan. These requirements include the following:
1. Background of database – why you chose to design this particular database2. Purpose of database3. Business goals and rules for database4. User requirements for database5. Data requirements for database6. Reporting requirements for database7. Estimated project schedule and project costs for creating the database and populating it with data8. Logical data model9. Data dictionary for all tables in data model10. SQL statements: – CREATE TABLE statements (for entities defined in model) – Minimum of two SELECT statements – INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE statements for at least one table 11. Identify the database management system (DBMS) software that will be used for the database 12. Specify the hardware for storing your database 13. Create a basic database back-up and recovery plan that is consistent with the business goals
