YCH635 Columbia Southern University Behavioristic Theory Journal Entry
Question Description
Unit journals. No references/reference page or title page necessary. Only the journals on a simple word document.
Unit 1 Journal
Instructions
First, reflect on the behavioristic theory that we are products of our environments. Do we truly develop according to the rewards and punishments that we have encountered? How does behaviorism explain free thought and creativity? Describe at least one example from your own life that supports or contradicts behaviorism.
Your journal entry must be at least 200 words. No references or citations are necessary.
Unit 2 Journal
Instructions
Could some of your personal food preferences have been classically conditioned? Think about your favorite foods for a moment. What are some of the associations you remember about those foods? On the contrary, have you ever fallen ill with the stomach flu soon after eating a particular food and found that you were not able to eat that food again, even months or years later? Identify a personal food preference of yours that you believe has been influenced by classical conditioning. Do you think it would be possible to reverse the conditioning? Explain.
Your journal entry must be at least 200 words. No references or citations are necessary.
Unit 3 Journal
Instructions
Have you or someone you know ever encountered a person or an animal with a phobia reacting to the stimulus that evokes their fear response? Even if the fear is irrational, the discomfort that they experience is both real and uncontrollable. Do you believe that treatments would be helpful in this situation? If so, what would you recommend?
Your journal entry must be at least 200 words. No references or citations are necessary.
Unit 4 Journal
Instructions
In operant conditioning, voluntary behavior is trained mainly through the use of rewards; however, it is not always clear what rewards will motivate the trainee. For example, most dogs will work hard for treats, but cats are a different story. Some children are naturally motivated to learn to read and do not need any rewards for doing their homework while other children require structure and support when acquiring their reading skills.
What motivates you to learn something new?
Your journal entry must be at least 200 words. No references or citations are necessary.
Unit 5 Journal
Instructions
From a behavioristic point of view, the purpose of punishment is to eliminate unwanted behavior. It should not be an expression of frustration on the part of the trainer, nor an act of revenge to make people pay for what they did. If punishment is correctly applied, it can be a useful training tool; however, it is often misused.
Have you ever experienced ineffective punishment application? Perhaps you have witnessed this happening. Briefly describe the situation, and explain what you think could have been done to improve the training outcome.
Your journal entry must be at least 200 words. No references or citations are necessary.
Unit 6 Journal
Instructions
Have you ever had to make a difficult decision? How did you analyze the potential costs and benefits to help you clarify your choice? Were you immediately satisfied with your decision, or were there some burdensome consequences? Did it turn out to be a good choice in the end?
Your journal entry must be at least 200 words. No references or citations are necessary.
Unit 7 Journal
Instructions
Sometimes it is easier to learn a task by watching someone else do it first. What have you learned to do by watching others? Is there any special skill you have learned by watching YouTube videos?
Your journal entry must be at least 200 words. No references or citations are necessary.
Unit 8 Journal
Instructions
What was your experience like with the course project? In what ways did it help you to anchor the theories and concepts you read about in the textbook? Do you plan to carry out your self-management program?
Your journal entry must be at least 200 words. No references or citations are necessary.
